“Your gifts help me address the most important needs of our students as conditions continue to evolve. I am immensely grateful for the support of Cal family members like you.”

— Carol T. Christ, Chancellor

Gifts to the Cal Fund help ensure that UC Berkeley retains its excellence in teaching, research, and public service by supporting students and faculty across campus. These contributions are put to use immediately in support of the greatest needs on campus, providing vital flexibility at a time when just 14 percent of Berkeley’s overall funding comes from the State of California.

Give Through Your Will/Estate Plan

Is Cal already in your will or would you like that to be arranged? Our planned giving group can assist you with all the details of estate planning. Find out how you can leave a lasting legacy at Berkeley.

Giving Societies

UC Berkeley appreciates and recognizes our donors through a variety of giving societies.

Charter Hill Society

When your contributions anywhere on campus reach $1,000 or more during the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), UC Berkeley welcomes you into the Charter Hill Society, a special philanthropic circle with membership benefits. Membership begins at $250 for students and alums who are 1-4 years past graduation, and at $500 for alums who are 5-9 years past graduation.

Berkeley Loyal

When you’ve made gifts to Cal in each of the last three fiscal years (or last two years if you are a current Cal parent or student) at any level anywhere on campus, you join the ranks of Berkeley Loyal, honoring Cal’s most steadfast donors.

Wheeler Society

Donors who include Cal in their estate plans have provided essential philanthropic support, helping us become one of the world’s great universities. The Benjamin Ide Wheeler Society (or Wheeler Society) was established in 1987 to recognize and honor these visionary individuals.

Builders of Berkeley

Builders of Berkeley are leading benefactors whose gifts have been indispensable to the establishment, evolution, and preeminence of the university. Each fall, we add the names of new Builders — philanthropists whose lifetime giving to Berkeley equals $1 million or more — to a granite monument flanking the Doe Library steps, honoring them with a ceremony celebrating their generosity.

The Cal Fund provides many opportunities to give. One example is the Student Technology Equity Program (STEP), which provided essential computer equipment to students in need who were working remotely due to the pandemic. The STEP program provided laptop computers, internet access, and other necessary hardware to 4,701 students.
